Enjoy developing your castanet technique through the expressive melodies and lively rhythms of Perfil Flamenco (Zapateado), composed by Esteban de Sanlúcar and performed by Oscar Herrero.

In this course, Kadri Merimaa teaches her original castanet arrangement step by step. The guitar music shapes the phrasing, accents and character of the arrangement, making each section both a technical exercise and a musical experience.

Clear guidance, from individual movements to the music

Close-up demonstrations and visual hand diagrams show which fingers to use and in what order. Colour-coded finger numbers, rhythmic syllables and on-screen markers support the explanations, helping you connect what you see, hear and play.

You will first practise the movements slowly, then combine them into longer phrases and play them with the music. Both hands take an active role, with exercises involving all four playing fingers, two-finger combinations, alternating strokes and rolls.

Practice at different tempos allows you to focus on clarity and coordination before increasing speed. You can use individual sections as technique exercises or work towards playing the complete arrangement.

Who is this course for?

This course is for castanet players with some basic experience who want to develop their technique and learn a musical arrangement. You should already know how to hold your castanets and produce a clear sound, but you do not need to play fast.

Clear visual instructions and slow, guided practice help you learn at your own pace. You can use individual sections as technique exercises or work towards the complete arrangement. You do not need to reach the original tempo to benefit from the course and enjoy playing the music.

For international learners

The teaching is primarily visual, supported by short English instructions and spoken rhythmic syllables. Clear demonstrations and finger guides keep reliance on spoken explanations limited.
